Unfortunately, the first defeat of Alvarado's career came against Brandon Rios on October 13th, 2012 in Alvarado's 34th professional fight. Alvarado's fight against Brandon Rios was Alvarado's first stoppage defeat of his career. This came via TKO in the 7th round of a 10 round fight. Alvarado's wins continued and went from 33 wins to 34 after he then defeated Brandon Rios.
Ruslan Provodnikov was next in line for Alvarado where unfortunately, he was defeated on October 19th, 2013 taking his record to 34-2-0. Alvarado's fight against Ruslan Provodnikov was Alvarado's 2nd stoppage defeat which came via RTD in the 10th round of the fight.
Taking a knock to his career, Alvarado fought and was defeated by Juan manuel Marquez on May 17th, 2014 taking his record to 34-3-0. Alvarado fought a brave fight but in the end was outclassed by Juan manuel Marquez over the 12 distance.
