Staritng his career off in tremendous fashion in July 2003, Mitchell became the 10th quickest fighter to have ever stopped Stevie Quinn. The fight ended in round 1 via KO stoppage. Following his debut, Mitchell had an impressive start to his career as he went on to win his next 22 fights including 3 times in 2003, 9 times in 2004 and 10 times through 2005 and 2006 against the likes of Kirkor Kirkorov, Andrei Isaeu and Mohammed Medjadji.

Mitchell's next defeat of his career came against Ricky Burns on September 22nd, 2012 taking his career record to 33-2-0. Mitchell failed to go into the later rounds with Burns, with Burns stopping him in the 4th round and becoming the 2nd person to stop Mitchell. Fights against Karim El ouazghari, Mikheil Avakyani, Marco Lopez and 1 other followed where he won all 4 fights taking his winning streak to 37 wins.
Mitchell went into his next career fight with a record of 37-2-0 and took this to 38 wins with a win against Ghislain Maduma on May 31st, 2014. Mitchell was the first person to stop Ghislain Maduma and he did it in the 11th round via TKO. Mitchell's wins continued and went from 38 wins to 39 after he then defeated Daniel Estrada.
Mitchell lost to Jorge Linares in his next fight. Taking place on May 30th, 2015, Mitchell's career record after this fight stood at 39-3-0. Mitchell was stopped by Jorge Linares in the 10th round of a 12 round fight via TKO. It was Mitchell's 3rd stoppage defeat in his career.
Mitchell went into his next fight against Ismael Barroso on December 12th, 2015 with a career record of 39 wins. A great performance by opponent Barroso added a 4th stoppage defeat to Mitchell's career. Mitchell was outmatched and the fight was brought to a halt in round 5 via TKO.
