Getting rid of his debut fight nerves early, Almond took on Jackie Arden in November 1946 and claimed a stoppage victory (round 4, TKO). Almond was the first person to have ever stopped Arden. Almond continued his mostly successful career with numerous fights following his debut against boxers including Spider Archer, Jackie Turner and Wally puncher Stone. Fights included fighting 2 times in 1946, 5 times in 1947 and 9 times through 1948 and 1949.
Almond then went on to fight and beat Wally puncher Stone on March 10th, 1947 maintaining his unbeaten record. Showing his class against Stone, Almond was the 2nd person to go the distance with this opponent. 13 wins followed where Almond went on to fight Jackie Turner, Jimmy Gooding and Tommy Rhett amongst others, prolonging his win streak.
Almond went into his next fight against Dado Marino on August 18th, 1949 with a career record of 16-1-1. Almond's technical boxing ability was put to the test as he got outpointed in the 10 round fight against the better man. Marino gave Almond his first professional loss of his 18 fight career to date.
Black Pico was next in line for Almond where unfortunately, he was defeated on October 16th, 1950 taking his record to 19-4-1. Pico was a fight too far for Almond and after a rough fight Pico became the first person to stop Almond in round 8. Almond then went on to win a further 6 fights taking his record to 23 wins, 5 losses and 2 draw.
Almond kept his losses at 5 by beating Hugh Riley on August 14th, 1952. Almond's PTS win against Hugh Riley came via judges decision of a 10 round fight. Almond became the 3rd person to defeat Riley and secured a great win.
The next defeat of Almond's career came against Fernando Gagnon on July 1st, 1953. This took his career record to 24-6-2. This proved to be one fight too many for Almond's career, Gagnon was the victor becoming only the 2nd person to stop Almond. KO in the 8th. Almond decided to call it a day after this fight.
