Before finishing his career in July 1940 orthodox boxer Balsamo built up a record of 42 wins, 2 draws, and 6 losses, starting at age 21 on May 1935 and ending 5 years later at . Between May 1935 and October 1936, Balsamo had his longest winning streak of 20 fights. In his 50 fights, his longest KO streak is 6 fights long.
In a great debut, Balsamo took on Thys Menger in a 6 round fight, becoming the 3rd person to stop Menger in his 18 fight career to date. Following on from his debut, Balsamo continued his mostly successful career by fighting in a further 25 fights. In this time he fought Joe Marino, Paul Pirrone and Jackie Aldare to name just a few, fighting 11 times in 1935 and 3 times in 1937 in this period.
Keeping his losses at zero, Balsamo fought on October 14th, 1936 beating Erich Seelig. Balsamo was the first person to stop Erich Seelig and he did it in the 1st round via TKO.
On October 28th, 1936, Balsamo took on and was defeated by Babe Risko in his first career defeat meaning his career tally went to 20-1-0. Coming into the fight with high confidence Balsamo fought his next fight against Babe Risko on October 28th, 1936. Unfortunately, Balsamo was outclassed and lost the decision on the judges scorecards taking his record to 20-1-0.
Taking a knock to his career, Balsamo fought and was defeated by Solly Krieger on December 16th, 1936 taking his record to 20-2-0. Balsamo faced the first stoppage of his career against Solly Krieger in the 7th round of a 10 round fight via TKO. Balsamo continued his success in the next 14 fights taking his record to 33 wins, 3 losses and 0 draws.
Balsamo went into his next fight against Glen Lee on December 17th, 1937 with a career record of 33-4-0. Balsamo fought Glen Lee and was defeated via TKO in the 10 round bout. This was Balsamo's 2nd stoppage defeat in his career which came in the 9th round. Fights against boxers including Young Terry, Walter Franklin and Bud Mignault followed where he won 11 fights taking his winning streak to 41 wins.
On April 1st, 1940, Balsamo went into action again and beat Walter Franklin taking the winning record to 42 wins. Balsamo was the first person to stop Walter Franklin and he did it in the 9th round via TKO.
Taking another knock in his career, Balsamo fought Ken Overlin on July 9th, 1940 and was defeated by Overlin. In one last attempt to prove he still had what it takes, Balsamo was unfortunately stopped in the 9th round of a 10 round fight. Overlin was only the 3rd person to stop Balsamo to end his 50 fight career.
