Joe Knight was next in line for Godwin where unfortunately, he was defeated on October 16th, 1933 taking his record to 74-9-9. Godwin was stopped by Joe Knight in the 5th round of a 10 round fight via TKO. It was Godwin's 3rd stoppage defeat in his career.
Godwin went into his next career fight with a record of 87-18-13 and took this to 88 wins with a win against Leroy Brown on March 24th, 1936. In 1936 Godwin fought his next opponent in Leroy Brown. A challenging 10 round fight that ended in Godwin's favour as the judges awarded Godwin the PTS victory. Godwin was the 18th person to defeat Brown. Pushing his career further, Godwin fought Stanley Hasrato on November 11th, 1937 adding to his winning record. Becoming the first person to stop Stanley Hasrato, Godwin beat Hasrato via KO in the 8th round of a 10 round fight.
Godwin's next defeat of his career came against Johnny Kapovich on February 24th, 1941. Kapovich proved too much for Godwin over 8 rounds by earning the decision win and bringing Godwin's 129 fight career as a pro to an end.
