Aceves's career took a knock with a loss against Ernesto Espana on April 22nd, 1978 taking his record to 12-2-0. Taking a huge blow to Aceves's confidence, Espana proved to be too much and stopped Aceves early, becoming the first person to defeat Aceves via stoppage.
Jose luis Castillo was next in line for Aceves where unfortunately, he was defeated on August 11th, 1978 taking his record to 12-3-0. Aceves fought Jose luis Castillo and was defeated via RTD in the 0 round bout. This was Aceves's 2nd stoppage defeat in his career which came in the 8th round.
The wins continued with the defeat of Ernesto Davis on June 30th, 1979 in Aceves's most recent fight taking his winning record to 13 wins. Aceves beat Ernesto Davis in the 2nd round of a 10 round fight via KO. Aceves was the 7th fighter to stop Davis.
